H O L Y M O L Y. What a mystery. I just finished reading The Guest List by Lucy Foley and can I just say, that was one of the best books I have just read. While the book starts off with mostly slow drama, the more you read, the more mysteries surface and the more questions rise up and the more tension is built. The latter half of the book is where things begin to be revealed more and more and there are multiple twists and turns. At first, I was skeptical of all of the different perspectives in each chapter and the time jumps, as they usually come out as a distractor rather than a tool for the author and the reader. Normally, I would get confused when reading books like this, but Foley does a fantastic job of being clear and using the technique as a tool to her advantage; not once was I confused by any part of her writing. Each chapter has the name of the perspective of the person and who they are: the plus-one, the groom, the bride, the best man, the wedding planner, and the bridesmaid. Additionally, each time jump is specified so as to be clear and free of uncertainty. The characters are all well written and as we get to know each of them and see their inner most turmoil and thoughts, it puts an edge on the mystery and all the questions that start to emerge. She depicts characters that stir up actual feelings in you of hate, pity, and annoyance. She creates characters that you love to hate and some that you hate to love. The contrast of the character is patterned throughout parts of the book like the setting, the people, the weather, the inner storms, etc. I am only left with the regret of not seeing some of the characters have their final say. This author is fantastic at keeping the reader on their toes, never sure what to expect next. The smallest details turn into the biggest clues, so follow along carefully if you want to crack the code. Be rest assured that as the dots begin to connect, your mind will be blown. -Signed, Emily

This book, wow. I am at a loss for words. The Guest List by Lucy Foley has left me...speechless. The twists, the turns, the mystery, all of it. The way that Lucy organized this book is so great, each chapter is a different first person perspective from the characters from the story. I love, love, love when she switches to third person perspective when she writes the chapters of the actual mystery. Each chapter I found myself trying so hard to figure out who died and who did it, and I really could not figure it out. The ultimate reveal is insane! Something I would have never really guessed. The way the characters are written is so great. I hated characters, I loved characters, and I felt bad for characters. Each character and their backstory is so intricately written that you feel a small attachment to some of them. Lucy Foley did so amazing with this book, I cannot recommend it enough. This book has definitely made me so much more interested in the other books that she has written. -Signed, Analisia
